Joyland Editions is a nonprofit independent press committed to publishing books that do not fit into the traditional publishing landscape. We publish two novellas every year, and are distributed by Asterism Books.
Joyland Editions charges $7 per submission. All submission fees go towards Joyland Publishing administrative fees and paying writers and editors.
Any writer who wishes to submit for free may email us at joylandeditions@joylandmagazine.com with the subject line "Submittable Fee Waiver" to receive a link to our free submission portal.
General Guidelines
- We accept both completed manuscripts of approximately 20,000–60,000 words and partial manuscripts/works in progress of at least 10,000 words. All manuscripts should have an anticipated final length of approximately 20,000–60,000 words, and all submissions must be a minimum of 10,000 words.
- Please allow up to three months for our editors to review and respond to your manuscript.
- Please submit one manuscript at a time. Simultaneous submissions are accepted.
- We are unable to personally respond to each submission that we receive.
- We accept works in translation.
- Project proposals should be formatted in 12-point Times New Roman and single-spaced.
- Submissions should be formatted in 12-point Times New Roman and double-spaced, except where formatting variations are intentionally used for stylistic effect.
What to Include
- All submissions must include a 1–3 page, single-spaced project proposal. Proposals should include: 1) A detailed description of the manuscript as a whole; for works in progress, please tell us how you envision the project developing beyond the submitted pages, 2) An author bio, 3) A brief note on the manuscript’s current stage of completion
